The Runway Ball is giving MET Gala -and Boston is here for it

BOSTON, MA – You’d be hard pressed to find someone in New York City that’s never heard of the MET Gala, or has at least caught wind of the iconic fashion pieces that grace its sweeping red carpet.

What’s the equivalent of the MET Gala in Boston? Matt Ribaudo had a hard time finding something on its level – so, he decided to throw it himself alongside his partner in crime, Amanda Vargus of Weave & Woven. “Everyone has been asking: ‘What’s the show about?’ and, ‘What’s it gonna be like?’ and even just trying to describe it..couldn’t even put it into words,” explained Ribaudo, who alongside Vargus orchestrated the entire evening of elegance.

To put it in words the best we can, the Park Plaza Hotel was sparkling with some of the city’s most notable figures for the first annual Runway Ball with a timeless theme: Hollywood at night. From see-through studded gowns to extravagant lace and blooming gowns, vibrant suits and classic ensembles there wasn’t a person in the room who wasn’t dressed to impress.

“This is a fabulous full length coat..with just a little jumpsuit underneath,” smiled Yolanda Cellucci coyly as she dazzled from head to toe in a matching white ensemble.

Serving up sweet treats like a glittering champagne cotton candy from Wave & Woven, drinks and a delicious spread of dishes, the ball boasted what felt like endless creative photo ops and show-stopping auction items. Once the lights went up, the pre-show performances were literally fire as sparklers lit up the stage.

The center of attention under the Park Plaza Ballroom’s elegant chandeliers, the runway featured designs by Graciela Rivas, Jacque Label, Ameera, Mpoze, Bless by Bless, and more as notable Bostonians including former Boston Police Department Commissioner William Gross. “What I’m really happy about here is that we’re raising money for such a worthy cause.”

Partying with a purpose, proceeds went to benefit families and children battling cancer via Toast to St. Jude of Boston Children’s Research Hospital. “No family will ever receive a bill from St. Jude’s for treatment, travel, housing or food,” explained Siobhan Dunn, on site to represent the foundation. “All a family has to worry about is helping their child live.”
