BOSTON, MA – From the bustling foyer of the Hilton Park Plaza, supporters gathered in their mission to bridge the gap in providing critical funding for ovarian & breast cancer research and caregiver support.
“Without this research, there would be no progress,” explains Christine Anastos founder of Connect & Thrive.
Ovations for the cure has raised over $1.8 million since its inception, founding a team at Dana Farber dedicated specifically to the cause, which has assisted in the discovery of using a blood test to detect ovarian cancer early. “The good news is that survival is improving and that is consistent year to year,” says Dr. Ursula Matulonis, Chief of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.
The best gift Ovations has been able to give? According to best Bestselling author Elle Simone Scott, the answer is time. “Those of us in the cancer world, Survivors thrivers, caregivers we think about time in a very different way. Not to say what’s right or wrong, it’s just different. What we’re doing here is we’re creating more time for those who need treatment care and support.”
Providing that support is the base of what the organization’s founder, Patty, built on to ease challenges faced by ovarian cancer patients. “We can take our power back,” says speaker Nicole Torres. “We can put ourselves in the position to show that we really stand for something.”
