DORCHESTER, MA – Chez Vous is well known in Boston as a place to go on any given night for great skates, good food (MUST try the wings!) and a welcome sense of community from the very first step. That’s what made it a perfect fit for Skate It Forward, a fundraiser to support the Boston Education Fund in their mission to provide equitable public education.
“We know in the bigger picture that we’re giving back to education and to our youth, and to have a team that really looks like they have the passion behind what’s happening, makes a difference,” explains Jessica Reynoso, who has been a longtime supporter of the non-profit that has raised over $108 million dollars in the last ten years.
During this time, BEDF has gained quite a following, including local celebrities like DJ EDubble, Jack Kingston, Amanda Shea and Boston’s famous burger pop-up, D-Burger. We stepped into the kitchen during their takeover at Chez Vous to see how their famous Lambo Burger is made and learn its story of origin.
“I had a client that couldn’t eat beef,” Richard “D-Burger” Pierre explained. “So I went to my friend who owns an Indian restaurant and I said, ‘Let me get some ground chicken’. He went downstairs, he was like ‘I don’t have no chicken I got lamb,’ – so I took the lamb. The whole street was lovin’ it.” The Lambo Burger was a big hit at Chez Vous, too – serving as perfect fuel to skate it up with actor Jack Kingston who came to show his support.
“You guys make the brightest day,” said Kingston, after being awarded a custom pair of skates by the teams at Chez Vous & BEDF. “I know the Boston Education Fund will get better, bigger and brighter.”
From workshops to programs, leadership training & educational initiatives, BEDF’s goal is simple yet strong: to push Boston’s youth forward by providing access to services they otherwise wouldn’t be able to receive. “They’re pouring into the BPS community when so many people have just turned their back on it,” explains Camila Pagan, co-founder of Beat The Odds. “In Boston Public Schools we have incredible youth, it’s a program like BEDF that’s gonna pour into it”.
