Moving with a mission: Parkinson’s Foundation hosts 2024 Moving Day

BOSTON, MA – A beloved family-friendly day on the Charles, the annual Parkinson’s Moving Day is easily recognizable by the sea of colored ribbons decorating Artesani Park. An annual walk that aims to raise funds and awareness for Parkinson’s, this year generated over $100,000 during the fun fall festivities that featured multiple wellness demos from boxing to dancing, physical therapy and low-impact exercise.

Fun facts about the day: it’s dog friendly, offers a free ice cream with registration, and a wide range of services and resources that support healing with Parkinson’s – a neurodegenerative disorder caused by the death of nerve cells in the brain that leads to progressive loss of motor function impacting approximately 10 million people worldwide “We work so closely with patients and their care partners and for us to be able to participate with this foundation is really so important,” explains Marta, Director of Patient Advocacy at Bluerock.

Bluerock, a major sponsor of the event, is an innovative team of neurosurgeons, scientists and medical professionals that are working on emerging biotech solutions for the disease. “We finished our phase 1 trial, we have 12 patients, it’s a safety trial, and so we are hoping to go to phase 2 with a larger trial early next year,” explains Cheryl, Director of Site Engagement & Patient Engagement at Bluerock.

While no cure currently exists, movement is medicine that helps – and the Parkinson’s Foundation hosts a whole day of it as they work to raise funds for a cure.
