Humor on the Harbor supports addiction recovery, critical resources

WINTHROP, MA – As the sun set on the harbor at Cottage Park Yacht Club in Winthrop, something funny started happening-literally.

The second annual Humor on the Harbor bash brought in the belly laughs with comedians like Steve Halligan and hypnotist Frank Santos. Settled in a quaint Winthrop community overlooking the Boston skyline, Cottage Park Yacht Club was a win-win for guests to enjoy a unique view of the city while giving back. “Last year we raised $23,000 so we’re hoping to beat that tonight,” smiled Caitlin Gillespie, co-founder of No Lost Cause.

As guests enjoyed a spectacular sunset view browsing one-of-a-kind auction selections, laughter and hope filled the air with guests bonding over their support for those in recovery.

What’s the vibe: Chasing sunsets at one of Boston’s most charming yacht clubs – and getting a good laugh doing it.

“The recovery community is in desperate need of resources,” explains Mike Deblasi. “There’s so many barriers in terms of funding, and people that are trying to get clean generally run into a financial struggle at some point. Whether it’s putting clothes on their back for an interview, cell phones, bus rides, transportation needs- all of these things are very important for somebody newly in recovery.”

Part of North Suffolk Community Services, Recovery on The Harbor is a peer-to-peer recovery support center in Boston with a judgement-free vibe.

“When you’re at the lowest point in your life, you’re looking for someone to help you,” says Andrew Rowe of Recovery on The Harbor. “We hope that we can put even a little dent in this. We know that there is such a wide gap between the haves and the have-nots.”
